Our President's Message
Spring is here and the CLWAC Annual Luncheon is just around the corner. I hope to see many of our members and associates at this fun event. Along with great conversation, company and food, our speaker, Ms. Pam Koob, curator of the permanent collection of the Art Students League of New York, will give us a presentation on “Listening to Edward Hopper”. Don’t miss this event. See our home page for reservation information.
This May we will be welcoming the Club’s new President, Ms. Gaile Snow Gibbs. Coming to the end of my term as president is bitter sweet for me. While I look forward to more free time to start some new and exciting art projects, I am a little melancholy. There have been so many wonderful people I’ve been able to meet, and experiences I have had, over these last three years as president, that I will miss. The title of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club President, was one I was so proud to have, and grateful for the opportunities it gave me artistically and professionally. I have been so fortunate to work with such a terrific board of directors. I have no doubt that Gaile will fill this position expertly, with the grace and professionalism that comes natural to her. Her experience and wisdom will be an asset to our organization. I wish her all the best in this exciting new endeavor. I am also so very proud to announce that this year’s Member’s Show, at the Salmagundi Art Club in New York, was the biggest ever. I was happy to see so many more of our members from across the country participating with outstanding artwork. Thank you to everyone who submitted work for this important show. I heard over and over again, complements regarding the quality of work and talent represented in the exhibition. We were entertained, as always, by the talented, Bob Trien and his trio. Our awards juror was Dr. Christine Oaklander. Among her many accomplishments, she is an Art Consultant with many clients of note, Art Coordinator for the Lehigh Valley Health Network and former Director of Exhibitions and Collections for the Allentown Art Museum. Our thanks to her, for taking on such a large task. Congratulations to all of the award winners.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the generosity of one of our dear patrons who recently passed away, Ms. Margaret Cassidy Manship. She was an artist, an archivist, a teacher and the wife of the late painter and sculptor John Paul Manship. She contributed generously to our club, establishing several awards honoring her husband in our Annual Open Juried Show. She is a long time friend to our organization as well as others and she will be truly missed by the arts community.
We are looking forward to our 116th Annual Open Juried Exhibition this fall at the National Arts Club. This is our biggest event of the year. As always, the benefit reception raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s, Travel and Research Department. Any woman artist, 18 years or older, can submit one piece of artwork for jury. The prospectus for this show is on the Calendar of events page.
I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!
