2002 Members' Exhibition

First Award / Oil / Acrylic Gabriela Dellosso “Aviva”

Our club mission to provide opportunities to exhibit and to. promote the work of its professional artist members is specifically addressed by our annual Members Exhibition. This year's show was held for three weeks, from April 9-28, at the Broome Street Gallery in the heart of Soho. Sixty-six artists from seventeen states exhibited their work in sculpture, oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, graphite, mixed-media, pen and ink, and graphics. In all, 72 works were shown off to their full advantage by the masterly hanging and arranging talents of Lucille Berrill Paulsen. More than 500 people visited the gallery during those three weeks, and were greeted by professional gallery sitters.

Twelve awards were presented at a gala reception on Saturday, April 13, hosted by co-chairs and directors Holly Meeker Rom and Ruth Rieber. Over 100 artists, visitors and guests enjoyed the buffet and wine bar prior to CLWAC President Meier and Holly Rom's presentation of the awards. The judges, all previous Horse's Head winners themselves, voted the Anna Hyatt Huntington Bronze Horse's Head award for Best Painting to Monique Sakellarios for her painting "Ephemeral." The other award winners were: Gabriella Delloso, first/oil/acrylic; Sheila Grodsky, second/oil/acrylic; Judi Betts, first/ watermedia; Jane Stoddard, second/watermedia; Ann James Massey, first/graphics; Ruth Rieber, second/graphics; Maida Rosenheck, first/pastel; Diana DeSantis, second/pastel; Sandy Scott, first/sculpture; Blanche VanDusen, second/sculpture and Jeanette Martone, The Margaret Dole Portrait Award. Also Maida Rosenheck's, "John Surfacing" won the People's Choice Award, donated by American Artist Magazine.

Because of the continued success of this show, the CLWAC Board voted to continue the three week show duration and the use of professional gallery sitters. This will continue to be a major opportunity for members to exhibit and to have their work promoted in the heart of the art world, New York City. Sculptors are especially needed in future shows so that the top award may go to one of them.
