Exhibition
Our club mission to provide exhibition opportunities and to promote the work of our professional artist members is specifically addressed by our annual Members’ Exhibition. This year’s show, co-chaired by Holly Meeker Rom and Ruth Rieber and installed under the leadership of Lucille Berrill Paulsen, was again held at the Broome Street Gallery. The exhibition covered three weeks, starting on March 25 and finishing up on April 13. Eighty-five works by members from seventeen states represented a full array of sculpture, oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, graphite, mixed media, pen and ink and graphics. Over six hundred people visited the galley to see the show.
Inge Heus, first award in
watermedia for “Zodiac Ceiling”
Awards were presented at the March 29 reception, in front of a crowd of over a hundred artists, visitors and guests. The judges—all past Horse’s Head winners—conferred the Anna Huntington Horse’s Head for Best Painting on Jeanette Martone for her painting “On the Street,” and the corresponding Horse’s Head for Best Sculpture on Virginia Abbott for “Fay”.
The other awards were, for oil and acrylic, Elizabeth Torak, first, and Carolyn Hesse-Low, second; for watermedia, Inge Heus, first, and Kathy Fieramosca, second; for graphics, Jeanette Koumjian, first, and Judith Anderson, second; for pastel, Catherine Kinkade, first, and Shirley Fried, second; and for sculpture, Sandy Frank, first, and Priscilla Heep, second. The Margaret Dole Portrait Award went to Gabriela Dellosso, whose triptych, “The Swimmer” also won the People’s Choice Award donated by American Artist Magazine.
