The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club takes great pleasure in naming Eleanor Tyndall Meier as this year’s Honored Member, recognizing her achievement as a watercolor painter and an important contributor to our Club. She has exhibited in Washington, DC; Baltimore MD; College Station, TX; Talladega, AL; extensively in the tri-state area and in Athens, Greece. She is a winner of numerous Awards of Excellence, First Places and Bests in Shows from prestigious art organizations and museums. Eleanor has been an awards juror for exhibitions and a guest speaker to art organizations. She is a valued member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Smithtown Township Arts Council, and the Art League of Long Island. For the latter, she chaired the Long Island Artists Exhibition at the Heckscher Museum of Art. Her still life paintings feature transparent and reflective objects, objects that are important because of past associations. Included in these tableaus are flowers, fruit, lace and silk fabrics. Emphasis is always on the reflective qualities of the objects and the webs of shadow created by the draped fabrics, with the intention of animating the surface to heighten the visual experience. North Light Books will include her painting, “Echoes and Resonance” in Splash 8: Watercolor Discoveries. |

Six of her paintings were exhibited at the U.S. Embassy in Papua, New Guinea, as part of the U.S. State Department’s “Artists in Embassies” program. |

But most of all, Eleanor is a valued member of our organization. Eleanor was President from 2000 to 2003 and saw us through our 2001 exhibit on the heels of September 11, when New York City was in mourning. She was Vice President of Painting during 1999-2000 and has been a board member since 1995. She brought to us the skill of an art teacher and supervisor to update our bylaws and introduce our Club to the World Wide Web. She dealt with pesky situations with grace and aplomb and always with a smile. For these wonderful qualities and contributions, and for her significant artistic accomplishments, we are truly privileged to have Eleanor Tyndall Meier as this year’s Honored Member of CLWAC. |
