A diminutive dynamo, a woman of many talents and accomplishments and as a long time board member, Gaile has devoted much of her skill and energy to the smooth functioning of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Nevertheless, she works daily at painting the portraits and still lifes for which she has become recognized in art circles not only in New York City but nationally as well. After twenty-five years as an award winning Art Director and Creative Supervisor in the advertising industry, Gaile turned to her first artistic passion - portraiture. She returned to her studies at the Art Students League where she had originally enrolled at the age of fifteen, studying under Jean Liberté. Her early promise was rewarded with the publication of her work in the ASL annual catalog. Later, in pursuit of a Fine Arts Degree, she also studied at DePauw University, Hunter College and the School of Visual Arts. At age twenty-five, she was commissioned to paint two
oil portraits of Dustin Hoffman for the Off-Broadway production of “Journey
of the Fifth Horse” at the American Place Theater. She continued
to hone her skills with study under the direction of pastellists Richard
Pionk and Americo |

Much of the enthusiasm and competence associated with Gaile’s personality also imbues her art. The interpretation of her sitters whether they be priest or gypsy, adult or child, black or white lifts them out of the ordinary. They are portraits that exhibit flawless technique, power, great beauty and strength. There is a magical excitement depicting an inner significance and other-worldliness evident in her works. Her work is reminiscent of the angels painted by the Italian master Guido Reni, whose paintings evoke an unearthly purity. One also senses this while looking at one of Gaile’s paintings. Our Gaile has another life, a New York City life. She assists her husband and best friend, Clark Warren, acting as manager for his cabaret career. From 2004 through 2007, Gaile also served on the Board of Control of the Art Students League. Most recently she worked tirelessly for the “Save Carnegie Hall Tower Studios” effort helping to organize a benefit performance of the French American Orchestra at St. Peter’s Church. Gaile is a true woman of the twenty-first century and is Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club’s honored member for 2008. |
