| Lee Hutt studied painting in Belgium where her love of the classical traditions in art was encouraged. She traveled widely both studying and looking…always looking. Pursuing a course in psychology, Lee received a masters degree in science from Columbia University. She continued to take art classes at the New School where she was influenced by the work of Jacob Lawrence and Chaim Gross. When Lee married and moved to Massachusetts, she intensified her studies in sculpture at Mount Holyoke College. She combines her knowledge of people with skill as a painter, and she brings that creativity to her sculpture. "It seems a natural transition. A person's face, their gestures, their movements tell so much about how they see themselves and their world. It is all there in elegant simplicity." Her goal is to capture that integrity in clay and then bronze. Lee Hutt has exhibited widely, receiving numerous awards She is a professional member of the National Sculpture Society, and is also a member of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Club, and the Allied Artist of America. "I work in traditional materials, clay and plaster. It's just hard work and magic." "Each person has a story. I see a face and read that story. And I capture that in clay." "I believe myself connected to a tradition with roots in the Renaissance and antiquity." "As artists we record history. It is a privilege, filled with self criticism, uncertainty and occasional ecstasy."
