Artist’s Statement
My paintings are inspired by the abstract visual patterns that occur around me: motion, repetition, color, texture and light. Using these patterns as a point of departure, I attempt to capture the essence of objects and places with a form of realism that is expressive rather than simply a recording of what I see.
Biography
A native of New Jersey, Anne Kullaf studied graphic design and fine art at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut and at The Art Students League of NY.
Her work will be featured in a traveling museum exhibit, "The New Reality: The Frontier of Realism in the 21st Century”, in 2008. She regularly exhibits her work at the Salmagundi Club and is represented in New York City by the Michael Ingbar Gallery and in Florida by Trudy Labell Fine Art.
In a 2006 review, art critic John Zeaman noted, "There's a kind of snapshot enthusiasm to Kullaf's work that belies how craftily they are put together. She has a quick stroke, knows that getting the big things right is 90 percent of the game, doesn't fuss with detail, but composes with precision and elegance."
She is an artist member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club; Salmagundi Club; the International Guild of Realism; and a faculty member of the Somerset Art Association.
