Our President's Message

The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club welcomes you to our 107th exhibition in the grand and historic National Art Club. This beautiful show took the better part of a year to plan. We congratulate the exhibitors. We thank Grace Church, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Arts Club and especially the CLWAC Board of Directors and the many who contributed countless hours to make this show a success.

We are an exceptional club whose members work together to further opportunities for women in art. Every successful organization has a mission, the lucky ones have a soul. Our soul is Nora Roth, our president from 1986 to 1988, our frequent benefactor, always devoted to the club until her death earlier this year. Nora was gentle, caring, gracious and well loved. She was the glue when things needed to be held together and a guiding hand when needed. Her words ring as true today as they did in our 1986 catalog:

Nora Roth is our touchstone. This catalog is dedicated to her for all she was and all she will always mean to us.

“As president of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, we give thanks for the freedom that is ours as Americans. For the blessings that we share as a nation, to grow in love and strive for the good of all people. Today’s artists have a wonderful future. We must bend with the wind, take the best of the past and put it beside the present…Catharine Lorillard Wolf would be very proud of today’s women. As far as we are concerned, she was our First Lady. Through the years both her name and the generosity have become part of history. Our Club feels honored to pay homage to our founder, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe.”

Nora Roth, CLWAC President 1986
