Received a B.A. from Georgian Court College in Lakewood NJ and briefly taught art in Manasquan, NJ Middle School.

Started painting in pastels after an oil painting class I was planning to attend got canceled and I fell in love with pastels.

Worked in the graphic arts field for over 25 years. Decided to get serious about painting after getting laid off when the company I worked for closed.
Pastel is the most stable of mediums. Being a dry medium there are no chemical changes that occur as with other mediums. It is pure pigment with a binder to hold them together. The color effect of pastels is closer to the natu- ral dry pigments than that of any other process
I never rub my work, letting the pastel sit on the surface to catch the light.
Brands I use: Sennelier, Terry Ludwig, Unison, Jack Richeson, Schminke and Rembrandt.

“Pastel painting is a gift that I have re-embraced at mid-life. When I am working in front of my easel, I am living in the present, appreciating the moment, not wanting to be anywhere else or doing anything else. I consider that to be one of the secrets to a good life, being truly mindful of what you are doing. That is why I paint, and why I use pastels. They are immediate, right at my fingertips. I can look over all the colors laid out before me and the possibilities are endless. Pastels capture light in nature with brilliance and mystery. They take me on the journey of the creation process. This process is almost always a struggle, solving problems and discovering solutions. After a painting is complete, I consider it a success when I can look at it and it looks fresh and spontaneous, and none of the agony I invariably went through shows. I get a true sense of accomplishment for the finished product and even more from the journey that took me there.”
